What is a digital employee?
A digital coworker or digital employee is an AI system assigned an ongoing business role, context, tools, routines, and measurable responsibilities so it can work alongside people rather than answer isolated prompts.
Why is this important?
The concept helps teams design AI as an accountable operating capability. A digital coworker can own recurring preparation, research, record maintenance, coordination, drafting, monitoring, or customer work while people retain authority over goals, exceptions, approvals, and sensitive decisions.
How it works
The system receives on-demand requests and scheduled or event-driven triggers, retrieves authorized company and customer context, plans the next action, uses permitted tools, records its work, checks outcomes, and escalates when confidence, policy, or authority limits are reached. In Frontline, Max serves as a personal internal coworker, while Studio agents can run internal workflows or customer-facing roles.
Technical example
A revenue team uses Max to prepare account briefs, maintain follow-up routines, draft communications, and update CRM context for each seller. A Studio agent qualifies inbound WhatsApp leads, checks product and account data, schedules meetings, writes the result to the CRM, and transfers complex opportunities to a person.
Implementation notes
Digital coworker and digital employee are workplace labels, not standardized technical categories. Define the role as a bounded set of inputs, tools, permissions, outputs, service levels, review points, and stop conditions. Keep identity, ownership, audit history, model and tool versions, cost, human corrections, and outcome metrics visible.
